Objects We Live With: Creating Space to Slow Down at Home

Round yoga bolster in a calm, minimal interior
There is a quiet distinction between the things we use and the things we truly live with.
Some objects serve a purpose.
Others shape the feeling of a space without ever asking for attention.
Over time, I’ve found myself drawn more toward those pieces. The ones that quietly return us to balance.
A chair you naturally gravitate toward at the end of the day.
A piece that always stays within reach.
A home that feels calm, considered, and lived in.

Recently, I was introduced to the work of fellow Canadian maker Ellen Wolfe of My Yoga Room Elements.
Her work approaches this idea from a different perspective. Instead of creating pieces that are worn, she creates objects designed to support moments of rest, stillness, and balance within the home.
Her round yoga bolsters are handcrafted using thoughtfully chosen designer textiles, with careful attention to both form and material. They are not pieces intended to be tucked away after use, but objects designed to exist naturally within a space and become part of it over time.

We often think of slowing down as something we need to plan for.
But more often, it happens in smaller moments.
A quiet corner at the end of the day.
A place to sit for a few minutes before everything begins again.
A space that feels settled enough to simply pause.
And sometimes, having something already there, a piece chosen with intention, makes it easier to return to those moments when you need them most.
When the objects around us feel comforting and considered, the quieter parts of the day tend to happen more naturally.

Others quietly become part of the way we live.
